The Empty Quarter F/W 2016 Nora Al Shaikh | Nora Al Shaikh since 2012 | Since launching her namesake label Nora Al Shaikh in 2012, the Saudi designer has carved out a niche for herself with strong graphic lines and rich color combinations. After receiving a degree in Business Administration, Nora pursued her dream of becoming a fashion designer when she enrolled at Riyadh’s Arts & Skills Institute, which offered the first fashion program of its kind in Saudi Arabia. Shortly after graduating, she presented her first collection in 2009 at Saks Fifth Avenue Riyadh. In December 2014, the designer received the Leaders Inspiring A Kingdom in the Business World Award, given by Forbes Middle East in recognition of “individuals and visionary self-starters who have the power to initiate change and contribute to the Saudi Arabia of tomorrow.”
Nora’s global approach to fashion is fueled by her love of travel, during which she gathers references to translate into her designs. Whether in London, New York or L.A., the designer is frequently inspired by architecture, art installations and the people she encounters on the street. In addition to featuring her clothes at special trunk shows and retail events such as Trickponi’s New York pop-up and Decades in L.A., the designer has been featured in WWD, Style.com Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and the Los Angeles Times amongst other noted publications.
