FYUNKA alaa balkhy | Fyunka since 2010 | Hejazi designer Alaa balkhy has two passions in life; illustrating and fashion. Growing up between Canada and Jeddah, Alaa’s passion for art developed with her changing surroundings. She eventually returned to her roots and moved back to Jeddah, where she gained her bachelor degree in Graphic Design. Through the years Alaa’s designs evolved tremendously during her college years and as soon as she graduated in 2011 she took her illustrations to another level and launched her first full collection for Fyunka.
Inspired by Arabian insights and pop culture, Alaa likes to illustrate designer bags and shoes or Oud bottles, veils and Kohls and combine them with witty Arabic quotes when creating her pieces. Using both Canvas and PVC, she creates bags that she believes would become an extension of young women, their character and their style.
Alaa’s creations have been featured in many respected publications, including; CNN.com Grazia magazine, Emirates Woman magazine, Brownbook magazine, Oasis magazine and numerous international style blogs.
Her love for fashion, illustration and marketing took her to New York City, where she is now taking courses in fashion business management, fashion journalism and social media. Amongst all the hustle of the big apple, Alaa stays true to her Khaleeji roots through her illustrations.
When she’s not designing or studying new tricks of the trade, Alaa spends the most of her time doing what comes naturally to her, connecting with fans of the brand, as a social media enthusiast, she has built a large following for Fyunka.
